Starting today, every prescription issued through Looms carries a unique QR code that can be scanned by any pharmacy or healthcare provider to verify its authenticity instantly — no phone call, no fax, no uncertainty.
The launch marks a significant step toward eliminating paper prescriptions across the UAE, where counterfeit and altered prescriptions have created both patient safety risks and administrative overhead for pharmacies.
How it works
When a doctor or clinic issues a prescription through the Looms platform, the document is cryptographically signed and stored in the patient's Looms account. A unique verification code is embedded in a QR code printed on or shared digitally with the patient.
Pharmacists scan the code to confirm the prescription is authentic, unaltered and has not been dispensed elsewhere. The entire verification takes under three seconds.
What this means for patients
Patients no longer need to carry paper prescriptions or worry about losing them. Prescriptions are available instantly from the Looms app on any device and can be shared directly with a pharmacy via a secure link.
- View all active and past prescriptions in one place
- Share prescriptions with any pharmacy via a QR code or secure link
- Receive automatic reminders when a prescription is due for renewal
- Track dispensing history across multiple pharmacies
What this means for clinics
Clinics that issue prescriptions through Looms eliminate paper entirely from the prescribing workflow. The system checks for known drug interactions and allergy conflicts before the prescription is issued, reducing the risk of adverse events.
Verified prescriptions are also legally defensible — the platform maintains a tamper-evident audit trail of every prescription from the moment of issue.
Availability
Verified digital prescriptions are available today to all clinics and hospitals on the Looms Standard and Professional plans. Patients receive access automatically when their clinic issues a prescription through the platform. We expect to expand to additional countries in the region in the coming months.
