Preventive care is the healthcare system's most cost-effective intervention — but it is systematically underutilised across the GCC. Our 2025 Preventive Care Report, drawing on data from 300,000 Looms patient interactions, examines why — and offers evidence that digital health records are part of the solution.

The headline finding

Patients with complete digital health records in Looms are 2.4 times more likely to complete recommended annual preventive screenings — cholesterol checks, diabetes screening, blood pressure monitoring, cancer screenings — compared to matched patients without digital records access.

The effect is most pronounced for screenings that depend on remembering a past result: patients who can see their last HbA1c result and its trend are significantly more likely to book a repeat test within the recommended interval.

Why digital records improve preventive care

Our analysis identifies three mechanisms. First, digital reminders: Looms clinical recall notifications prompt patients when screenings are due. Second, visible history: being able to see that a test is 14 months overdue, rather than vaguely remembering that it's 'been a while', is a more effective motivator. Third, clinical connection: patients with an active clinic connection in Looms have a lower barrier to booking.

Policy implications

The full report includes policy recommendations for GCC health ministries and insurance providers, arguing that digital health record access should be treated as a preventive health intervention in its own right — not just an administrative convenience.
