Our Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Lina Haddad, joined a panel at the Doha Health Forum this week to present findings from Looms' internal research on patient engagement — and to make the case for AI-assisted health record interpretation as a tool for equity, not just efficiency.
Key findings presented
Dr. Haddad shared data from 400,000 Looms patient interactions showing that patients who received AI-generated explanations of their lab results were 3.1 times more likely to book a follow-up appointment within 30 days compared to patients who received the same results without an explanation.
The effect was strongest among patients without a university-level education — suggesting that plain-language AI interpretation has a disproportionate impact on health literacy gaps.
The panel discussion
The panel — which included representatives from the Qatar Ministry of Public Health, a UAE-based radiologist and a digital health investor — explored the tension between AI automation and clinical oversight. Dr. Haddad's position was clear: AI in health records should empower patients to ask better questions of their doctors, not replace the doctor-patient conversation.
