Prescriptions in Looms have an end date set by the prescribing clinic. When a prescription passes its end date, Looms moves it from Active to Past Medicines automatically. Here's exactly what changes — and what stays accessible.
What happens when a prescription expires
- The prescription moves to the Past Medicines tab — it doesn't disappear
- Active dose reminders linked to that prescription are paused automatically
- The prescription detail page remains fully accessible — you can still view, print and download it
- The QR code on a clinic-issued prescription remains verifiable — the document's authenticity isn't affected by expiry
- The medicine is removed from your current Active Medicines list
How to request a renewal
If you need a repeat prescription, you have two options in Looms. For background on what each field in a prescription means, see understanding your prescriptions:
- Message your clinic directly via the Messaging section and request a renewal
- Book a repeat prescription appointment if your clinic offers that appointment type
- At your next appointment, ask the doctor to issue a new prescription through Looms — it will appear in your account immediately
Self-uploaded prescription expiry
If you uploaded a paper or scanned prescription yourself (rather than receiving a clinic-issued one), there is no automatic expiry — the record stays in active until you manually move it to past or delete it. Make sure to update your medicines list when you stop a self-managed medication.
