If you've been using another health platform or app, you don't need to start from scratch in Looms. Most records can be exported as PDFs or images and uploaded directly. Here's how to bring your existing history across.
Step 1: export from your old platform
Most health apps include an export or download option in Settings or Account. Look for options labelled 'Export data', 'Download my health records' or similar. Common formats include:
- PDF — best for individual documents like lab results, prescriptions and summaries
- JPEG or PNG — for scanned documents or photos of paper records
- ZIP archive — some platforms bundle all records into a single file
- FHIR or HL7 — structured health data files; contact Looms support for help importing these
Step 2: upload to Looms
- Go to My Records and tap the + (upload) button
- Select the exported files from your device's Files or Downloads folder
- Choose the record type — lab result, prescription, radiology, medical report etc.
- Set the date to match the original document, not today's date
- Add the provider name in the notes field so you can filter later
Tips for large imports
- Upload records in batches of 10–20 to avoid timeouts
- Start with the most clinically important records first — recent labs, active prescriptions, specialist letters
- If a PDF contains multiple records (e.g. a full year of blood results), split it by page before uploading so each record stays searchable individually
- After uploading, let Looms AI analyse each document — it will extract key values automatically
Records that don't transfer easily
Some proprietary data — fitness scores, step counts, sleep graphs from consumer wearables — may not export in a format that Looms can parse. Wearable data synced directly via Looms Connected Devices is kept separate from clinical documents and doesn't need to be migrated manually.
