Reading your vital signs trend charts

The Vitals Journal in Looms stores every reading you log and plots them on a trend chart so you can see the direction of change over time. A single blood pressure reading tells you where you are today; a three-month trend tells you whether the lifestyle changes or medication are working.

Opening the trend chart

  • Go to Vitals Journal
  • Select the vital sign you want to review (Blood Pressure, Blood Glucose, Weight, Heart Rate, etc.)
  • The chart shows all readings for that vital over the selected time period
  • Use the time range selector to switch between 7 days, 30 days, 3 months or all time

Reading the chart

  • Each dot represents one reading — tap it to see the exact value, date and time
  • The shaded band shows the normal reference range for that vital
  • Readings outside the band are shown in amber (borderline) or red (significantly out of range)
  • A moving average line (where shown) smooths out day-to-day variation to reveal the trend
  • For blood pressure, systolic and diastolic are plotted as separate lines on the same chart

Interpreting what you see

Trends matter more than individual readings. A blood pressure that dips below the range once is unlikely to be significant; a blood pressure that has drifted upward consistently over three months is a conversation to have with your doctor.

Highly variable readings — large swings up and down within days — can also be meaningful. This pattern in blood pressure, for example, may be more relevant than the average level. Lab result trends work the same way — see understanding lab trend charts for how the same principle applies to your blood tests.

Sharing the trend with your doctor

  • Choose the time range to include
  • Generate a link or download the chart as an image
  • Add the trend to your appointment prep so the clinic sees it before your visit
