If you use more than one pharmacy — perhaps a clinic pharmacy for one medication and a community pharmacy for others — keeping track of which prescription went where can get complicated. Looms helps you maintain a clear record of every prescription and its dispensing history. For background on what a prescription contains and what each field means, see understanding your prescriptions.
Sending a prescription to a pharmacy
- Open the prescription detail page
- Tap Share or Send to pharmacy
- Choose to send via email or generate a QR code the pharmacist can scan
- The pharmacy verifies the prescription's authenticity via the QR code or the Looms verify link
- Note the pharmacy name in the prescription notes for your own reference
Tracking what has been dispensed
When a clinic-issued prescription is dispensed via Looms, the dispensing event is recorded. For self-managed records, you can manually note dispensing in the record notes, including the pharmacy name, date, and quantity dispensed.
Managing controlled medications across pharmacies
Controlled or scheduled medications (opioids, some sleep aids, ADHD medications) can only be dispensed from one pharmacy at a time under the original prescription. Looms displays these clearly and does not allow the same controlled prescription to be resent once dispensed.
If you need to change pharmacy for a controlled medication, speak to your prescribing doctor — they will issue a new prescription.
Keeping your medicines list accurate
- Review your Medicines list after each pharmacy visit to confirm it reflects what you're actually taking
- If a medication was dispensed but you're not taking it (e.g. a course you didn't complete), mark it as inactive
- List the dispensing pharmacy in your prescription notes — useful if you need to query the dispensing record later
