Video appointments with your medical center run directly within Looms — you don't need to install a separate video app. Here's how to join and what to do if something doesn't work. For a guide to booking your appointment in the first place, see booking an appointment, and to prepare what you'll discuss, see appointment prep.

Before your appointment

  • Check that your device has a working camera and microphone — test them in Settings > Privacy
  • Use a well-lit, quiet location with a stable internet connection
  • If you're on mobile, update the Looms app to the latest version
  • Have your relevant records open in a second tab in case your doctor asks to discuss them
  • You'll receive a reminder notification 15 minutes before the appointment starts

How to join

  • Go to Appointments
  • Open your upcoming video appointment
  • The Join Now button becomes active 5 minutes before the scheduled time
  • Tap Join Now — your browser will ask for camera and microphone permission
  • Tap Allow — without this, the video will not work
  • The call begins when the clinician joins

During the consultation

  • Use the mute button if there is background noise
  • If video freezes, refresh the page — this reconnects without losing your slot
  • Use the chat panel to share a link if you need to show your doctor a specific record
  • If the connection is poor, switching to audio-only (turning off your camera) improves stability

Troubleshooting

  • No camera/microphone: check browser permissions — go to browser Settings > Site Permissions and ensure Looms has access
  • Blank screen: refresh the page or try a different browser (Chrome and Safari are most reliable)
  • Call drops repeatedly: move closer to your Wi-Fi router or switch to mobile data
  • Doctor can't join: contact the clinic directly via Looms Messaging — they may be running late or have a technical issue
