Every prescription issued through a verified medical centre on Looms carries a unique authentication token. This token allows anyone with the verification link or QR code to confirm that the prescription is genuine and was issued by the named provider.
The verification process
- When a centre issues a prescription, Looms generates a unique one-way token and attaches it to the document
- The token is embedded in a QR code that appears on the prescription
- A pharmacist or other provider scans the QR code or visits the verification URL
- The verification page confirms the issuing centre, the prescribing clinician and the issue date — without exposing other PHI
- The page shows whether the prescription is authentic, has been modified, or is outside its validity period
What centres need to issue verified prescriptions
Only centres with verified issuer status can issue prescriptions that carry Looms verification. Verification status is granted by Looms after the centre has submitted their licence documentation and it has been reviewed by the platform team. Centres without verified status can still issue records to patients, but these do not carry the verification token.
