An emergency health plan ensures that first responders and healthcare providers can get the information they need about any family member instantly — even when you're not present. Here's how to set one up for every member of your family in Looms. For the full guide to your personal Emergency Card, see using the emergency card, and our blog article on what to include in an emergency health card covers the key information from a medical perspective.
Step 1: create or update each family member's profile
- Go to Family Hub
- Select the family member or tap + to add a new profile
- Enter their blood type — this is the single most critical piece of emergency information
- List all known allergies with the type of reaction (anaphylaxis, rash, nausea)
- Record current medications including the dose and prescriber
- Add chronic conditions — diabetes, epilepsy, asthma — with relevant action notes
Step 2: set up the Emergency Card
- Open the family member's profile and tap Emergency Card
- Confirm the information shown is accurate and complete
- Add the primary emergency contact name and number
- Set a secondary contact (other parent, a sibling, a trusted neighbour)
- Add any specific instructions — e.g. 'Has an EpiPen in school bag' or 'Do not administer NSAIDs'
- The Emergency Card generates a QR code that any device can scan without a Looms account
Step 3: share with carers
Share the Emergency Card QR code with relevant people — teachers, childminders, after-school supervisors, family members who regularly care for the child. Screenshot the QR code or save it as a PDF and send it directly.
Keeping the plan current
- Review each family member's Emergency Card every six months and after any medical change
- Update medications immediately when a prescription changes — an outdated medication list can lead to dangerous interactions
- Check that emergency contact numbers are still current
